SHAG Starts New Year with Anniversary in Mind

As we start 2013, the value of time is on my mind. This year we are celebrating our 25th anniversary. I am encouraged by what has been accomplished in a quarter of a century and astounded by the possibilities of what will happen at SHAG in the next. To find inspiration for what can be accomplished in a year, a month and even just a day, all I have to do is look to our residents. In less than a year, the knitting group at Boardwalk II touched the lives of over a thousand people in need by providing them with warm outerwear. In a month, SHAG resident and volunteer veteran service coordinator Johnathan Johnson visited dozens of veterans to talk about their life situations. Every day, hundreds of residents from Olympia to Bellingham contribute their talents and services to their communities as meals on wheels drivers, soup kitchen volunteers, literacy advocates and more. Time is powerful and when we band the hours, days, months and years of over 5,000 residents together, 25 years of SHAG is a wonderful thing to think about for the people of the Puget Sound area.
